How Express Entry works

The Express Entry system is an online process used by the Government of Canada to manage immigration applications for skilled workers. It involves three main immigration programs:

  1. Canadian Experience Class: For skilled workers with eligible Canadian work experience within the last three years.
  2. Federal Skilled Worker Program: For skilled workers with foreign or Canadian work experience, meeting education and other criteria.
  3. Federal Skilled Trades Program: For skilled workers in trades with a valid job offer or qualification certificate.

Applicants can also apply for the Provincial Nominee Program if nominated, which adds extra points to their profile.

The process includes five steps:

  1. Check eligibility: Answer questions or review detailed requirements.
  2. Check your score: Submit your profile to be ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
  3. Prepare documents: Gather necessary documents like language test results.
  4. Submit profile: Fill out and submit your Express Entry profile.
  5. Get an invitation and apply: Those with the highest CRS scores receive invitations to apply, with a 60-day deadline to submit the application.

Most complete applications are processed in 6 months or less.
